A Decade of Excellence
December 2011 Issue
While wrapping up the last issue of 2011, I can't help but be excited for the coming year. As we head into 2012, The O&P EDGE will mark its tenth anniversary—a significant milestone for any magazine.
Estimates indicate that 60 percent of magazines fail in their first year, 80 percent fail by their fourth year, and by their tenth year 90 percent of magazines fail. But as The O&P EDGE prepares to mark this milestone, it is stronger than ever. Our outstanding, industry-specific content makes us a trusted, credible resource for practitioners and consumers alike. Our award-winning writers; our internationally recognized website; and the relationships we have built with our readers, advertisers, industry leaders, and contributors are all reasons that we continue to grow every year. Our readers motivate us to constantly seek out new and exciting advancements, as well as trends and issues that are impacting the orthotic, prosthetic, and pedorthic professions. We're always looking for fresh, new angles, research, and ideas to keep our content relevant for you.
In the fall of 2001, when we brainstormed this "crazy" idea of launching a new O&P publication, there were plenty of reasons not to do it. We had entered a nationwide recession, the dot-com bubble had burst, and the United States had just experienced devastating terrorist attacks.
As we begin our tenth year of publication, the United States is struggling to recover from another economic recession. Unemployment continues to hover at around nine percent, reimbursements continue to decline, and marketing and advertising budgets are getting slashed. Despite all of these things, the O&P industry outlook remains bright, and, just as we have for the past decade, we're looking forward to keeping The O&P EDGE readers informed for the next ten years and beyond.
We have some amazing things in store for you in 2012. Stay tuned.
