2018 Hanger Education Fair Draws More Than 1,100
More than 1,100 Hanger employees from across the country, including over 900 clinicians and therapists, attended the 2018 Education Fair and National Business Meeting in Las Vegas January 29-February 2.
With the theme "Breaking Barriers," the conference provided continuing education on advanced orthotic, prosthetic, and therapeutic solutions, as well as a platform to recognize employee and patient successes. The tone for the event was set with the addition of new clinical keynote sessions led by medical experts, including orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists.
Five Hanger Clinic patients shared their personal stories during the opening ceremony January 30. Each shared how Hanger's values have enabled them to achieve their goals, from a patient-focused team running a 5K alongside a woman with limb loss, to an innovative clinician designing a custom prosthesis for a world-class kayaker.
O&P patients and other members of the limb-loss and limb-difference community attended the Education Fair in other capacities as well, including exhibitor representatives, patient models, and speakers. Hanger Clinic patient Cheryl Hile, who uses an AFO, addressed the audience during the dinner and awards ceremony February 1, sharing her personal story of overcoming foot drop, a symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS), to become the first person with MS to run seven marathons on seven continents in one year.
With more than 115 exhibits and 370 exhibitor representatives, the fair was also filled with manufacturers demonstrating the latest in O&P and rehabilitative technology. Several vendors and partners were recognized for their contributions at the Hanger Partner Awards, including ST&G as rising star, Orthomerica for collaboration, Coapt for innovation, and WillowWood for operational performance.
More than 150 women also attended Hanger's fifth annual Women in Leadership course, which included leadership skills training and a question and answer session.
