Prosthetic/Orthotic Shop Technician Wanted
The ideal candidate must have at least two years of experience in a prosthetics facility and should be proficient in the following:
Fabricate, fit, maintain, and repair artificial limbs and other prosthetic devices.
Lay out and mark dimensions of parts using appropriate measuring instruments and templates.
Operate machinery including power tools, mills, lathes, and welders.
Saw, carve, cut, and grind wood, plastic, metal, or fabric to fabricate parts.
Drill and tap holes for rivets and screws using drill press.
Glue, weld, bolt, sew, and rivet parts together.
Test prostheses for freedom of movement, alignment of parts, and mechanical stability.
Fabricate cosmetic covers.
Apply silicone skin covers to prosthesis.
Basic mathematical skills.
This position requires the employee to stand for a full eight-hour work day and carry plaster molds, which weigh between twenty and fifty pounds, and fifty-pound bags of plaster. Candidates should anticipate the physical demands of the position and be able to meet these requirements.
