Duties/Responsibilities
- Fabricate orthoses and prostheses as directed by Orthotists/Prosthetists and delegated by the Laboratory Supervisor, consistent with departmental scopes of practice
- Create positive plaster molds; strip negative casts; thermoform plastic; cut out, grind, and smooth plastic edges; contour, drill, polish and attach metal work; attach closure systems to orthoses as requested; sew materials as required; transfer, laminate and repair prosthetic devices; assist orthotists and prosthetists with patients on a PRN basis
- Fit patients with shoes
- Care for and come in contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, school age, and adolescent patients, with concomitant dealings with adult caretakers
- Inventory, track and order materials and equipment
- Interface with all clinical Orthotists/Prosthetists and Laboratory Supervisor regarding the application of varied techniques to produce the most technically advanced and functional orthoses and prostheses
- Contribute toward the training of Orthotics/Prosthetic Residents and UTSMC students

Required Skills/Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certificate from an ABC recognized orthotic technical school, OR
- Minimum of 1 year of applicable technical experience
- Sufficient knowledge and capability to fabricate all types of orthoses produced by the orthotics department
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills to successfully manage a constant influx of activity
