President-elect Barack Obama has announced that he plans to
nominate four-star general Eric Ken Shinseki to become the U.S.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Shinseki was one of only eight
Vietnam veterans to return to active duty after undergoing an
amputation. The front of his right foot was amputated after he
stepped on a land mine while commanding troops.
