The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) announced it is conducting a survey of ABC-certified orthotists and prosthetists to collect information necessary to develop a new “Practice Analysis of Certified Practitioners in the Disciplines of Orthotics and Prosthetics.” Last published in 2007, the practice analysis is a validation study focusing on providing a contemporary description of the tasks and responsibilities of the O&P profession. ABC said the survey results will be used in the development of valid and reliable exams; to determine current trends and future directions in practice; to provide a framework for education, accreditation, and residency programs; and to convey to others outside of the O&P disciplines the scope of services provided by certified practitioners.
The survey will be e-mailed to all ABC-certified practitioners in mid-June. ABC said it encourages all of its certified orthotists and prosthetists to participate in this survey.
