Shoulder/Elbow orthosis

Rachel Sidle

I have a young man with an incomplete spinal cord injury at C1/C2. He has
good use of his RT hand, no elbow flexors, good elbow extensors, severe
internal rotation with no active external rotation, and mod/severe shoulder
subluxation.

The OT’s goal is to address the shoulder subluxation (responded well to a
reinforced shoulder support) and assist the elbow with flexion so he can
use his RT hand. She would like the internal rotation addressed if
possible to make his alignment better so he can better use his hand.

I was thinking of flail arm hinges, but the OT would prefer something with
elbow flexion assist so he can use his active elbow extensors. If it could
be incorporated into the shoulder support, that would be a bonus.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
