Pediatric quad amputee

Megan Booth

Hi all,

I have a 12 month old girl with a diagnosis of meningococcemia. She is awaiting amputation of both hands and feet. Amputations will likely be taking place in the next week. It’s looking like she will have bilateral transtibial amputations, and she may lose all digits on her hands as well, if not the hands/wrists. I have not had such a young post-op amputee. Is there anything we should plan immediately post-operative? I’m especially wondering for her UE amputations.

Thanks for your help,

Megan Booth, LCPO | Orthotics
