Pediatric TF Amputee

Kramarczyk, Charles

Listserv,

I have a 3 yo above knee amputee, who has been in above knee prosthesis (minus the knee joint) for the past year. He has outgrown it and is in need of a new one. I have yet to do a prosthesis for a toddler, and I am looking forward to it. He is in a copoly socket right now, with a ossur locking liner and lanyard strap, and a SACH foot. He wears the prosthesis 2 to 3 hours a day, he gets around a lot quicker without it and doesn’t like to wear it. His parents keep trying to keep him in it. When he does wear it, he walks well with it.

I am just looking to for advice and prosthetic protocols.

Leaning towards staying with the lanyard system.
Mom says the other OP shop she was at, was planning on putting a knee on him with his new prosthesis. What do others use to determine if he is ready for a prosthetic knee. Is 3 too young?
When is a good time to put him in a carbon foot?
Planning on putting him in a laminated socket this time, with a removable flexible inner socket, so we can prolong the lifespan of the socket.

Any tips and suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
