USISPO Student Service Trip to Belize in August
Nine students from five U.S. universities and their multi-disciplinary team
of mentors will hit the ground running to work with amputees when they
arrive in Belize August 14.
USISPO is collaborating with the Prosthetic Hope International Clinic in
Orange Walk Town where the student team will work with the clinic’s founder,
Rob Kistenberg, and team mentors, USISPO members Jon Batzdorff, CPO, Lynsay
Whelan, OTR/L, Deborah Nawocenski, PhD, PT, and Aarti Deshpande, CPO.
During their busy week of work the August team will follow up with patients
who were seen during Kistenberg’s recent service trip (July) as well as
assess and deliver devices to a new group of amputees. Kistenberg normally
leads volunteer groups to work in Belize several times a year.
USISPO’s Belize Student Service trip will service as a model for planning
future student trips to other countries, according to Jon Batzdorff, USISPO
Chairman Emeritus.
