Wondering if any of you have had problems with Medicare Advantage companies when doing salvage billing for deceased patients or .for refusal of services. As you know, Medicare allows us to bill for these sorts of scenarios so that we can be paid in part for our work. We recently had an offset by an MA company, with no warning, on a patient that we submitted a salvage claim for which had been previously paid. When we contacted the MA company they stated they don’t do salvage billing – period. However, the rep didn’t really seem to know much about it and stated that we could appeal.
How can Medicare Advantage companies legally not abide by Medicare guidelines? Any suggestions on where we can go for more information?
