Good Morning List server people. I’m Billy Abril, President of Phoenix Rising for Haiti. The colleague is correct when you donate to a country. There is no way around that, they’re corrupt. You must donate to an established organization that travels to the poorest places in that country. No one from the government wants to go there. We have been successful in getting our donated supplies and medications to our clinic and we control the distribution. We are also a 501c3 group and you can get tax deductions for your donations. We appreciate anything you can donate. Prosthetics and Orthotics are the cornerstone of our clinic. We have treated and fit over 125 Haitians with there limbs since we started in 2010. We will have 2 teams there from April 7th to 21st.Thank you for your consideration and God Bless, Billy

Subject: [OANDP-L] Where to donate Used devices FINAL
One colleague advises this: ‘The best of intentions can have negative outcomes so be certain you know who you are dealing with and the environment. There are places in a number of countries that will accept donations then sell them. In other situations, there are viable O&P practices where donations and volunteer efforts are in direct competition with their ability to make a living and service their patients. Make sure your donations are going where they are valued and needed.’
One of the listed organizations is reported to charge for the donated orthoses, and are in conflict with existing, adequate free facilities available for patient’s in Guatemala. If you have questions about this contact:
