It isn’t every day that we have a chance to provide input to one of the elements that has a tremendous impact on our entire profession.
According to the introduction of the consensus report, poor technique and skill of the surgeon can compromise the ability to walk in up to 20% of your patients. So… think about this more like giving yourself a 25% raise in revenue (and a better chance for a better life for all of your patients). At this point, it almost seems to be an ethical obligation to get involved in this…

How many of you are aware that one of the major concerns during transfemoral amputation surgery is not hip flexion contractures (caused by sitting), but hip abduction contractures? So much so that the adductor myodesis removes the IT band from the lateral side of the femur, resulting in a 30% loss of hip abduction strength (Gottschalk 1994, pg 16). Like all of you, I was told in school that “hip abductors are intact…” As Mark Twain (possibly) said, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
We just got the right for our notes to be included in the CMS records. Let’s show them that we deserve it.
