Hi all,We have been receiving electronic clinical notes and referrals from physicians, usually affiliated with local hospitals. Is there a reference somewhere to as what Medicare and insurance companies consider valid as regards to physician signatures? Some clearly state “Electronically signed by —— MD” with the date and some state “authorized by ——– MD” and others don’t have any signature or electronically signed anywhere. We have been sending the non signed ones back to the physician for signatures but we have a few physicians who are making a stink about signing stating that the electronic record should be sufficient. But of course, they are not the ones sending in documentation for authorizations or appeals. One physician wants to see something in writing from Medicare stating that they must be signed or clearly stated that they are electronically signed. I have looked on Region D and cannot find anything specifically stating a policy. Any suggestions? How are others handling this?Thank you.Karl Entenmann, CPOPreferred O and PTacoma / Federal Way, WA
