Silicone ring prosthetic socks

John Craig

Dear O&P Listserve-
I asked about prosthetic transfemoral socks with a silicone ring to help suspend a suction socket when a patient’s residual limb gets smaller. It appears that the sock I recalled was called a hypobaric sock made by Dr. Sidney Fishman and his son. I understand that it is no longer available through distributors. A possible solution mentioned were the ECHO or AURA silicone rings available through Evolution Industries (an OSSUR company) out of Orlando, Florida. These must be used with a suspension sleeve w/o a cloth cover. ECHO is for firm stumps and AURA is for fleshy stumps. There are stock sizes, but these are also available in custom sizes for a reasonable up-charge. I hope this information helps other prosthetic practitioners. John G. Craig, CPO/LPO (TX)
