Are you a prosthetist or orthotist? We would like you to answer some questions about your work?
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) affect many employees working in the healthcare sector. Heavy lifting, adverse postures and ‘wear and tear’ of the body over time can all contribute to WMSDs. We think P&Os are likely to be at high risk of developing WMSDs because of the work we do and the conditions we work in. We also know that many other factors contribute to the development of WMSDs. However, research has shown that current strategies to reduce WMSDs do not adequately address all of the work-related causal factors, which may contribute to these injuries.
We are asking for Prosthetists and Orthotists with and without injuries to complete a survey regarding work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the P&O profession. Your answers will assist in developing an understanding of the work related hazards within the Prosthetics and Orthotics profession. Please feel free to send this to any of your P&O colleagues who may not have received this email. Results of the survey will be deidentified and the researchers will not be able to identify any individual participating in the research. The results will appear in a research thesis and may be presented at a conference or published in a journal. Results from this study will made be available upon request.
