I have a TF amputee client that is a horse rider and has already been ‘back
on the horse’ since his surgery, but he reports that his current prosthesis
doesn’t seem ideal; I can overcome the problem with the socket sitting too
far out from the saddle by changing socket design to incorporate a flexible
inner, with the medial wall exposed, in order to allow him to bring the leg
closer in, however would like advice on componentry that might be suitable.
He finds that with his current set up, the heel digs in to the horses side
and causes all sorts of problems for him and the horse! Perhaps just getting
the client to simple rotate foot in (to move heel away from the horses side)
might be easiest option. I love horses, but don’t know much about riding,
so if there is anyone that has had experience in fitting a TF prosthesis
with similar considerations for sitting comfort and control/driving of the
horse, I would really appreciate your thoughts.
