NAAOP Members: Monday, July 28th is the deadline for commenting on the
proposed regulation that CMS recently issued on prior authorization for
certain DMEPOS, including lower limb prostheses, which must be obtained from
CMS before furnishing services to Medicare patients. Unless significant
changes are made to the proposed rule, this regulation will significantly
impact the practice of orthotics and prosthetics and lead to delays and
denials of patient care. NAAOP, working in conjunction with the O&P
Alliance, has already submitted this comprehensive response
(http://www.naaop.org/docs/OP_Alliance_Comment_Letter_on_CMS_Prior_Authoriza
tion_Proposed_Rule.pdf) on behalf of the O&P profession.
In addition, we urge all of our members to copy this template letter
(http://www.naaop.org/docs/Template_PA_Letter_for_NAAOP_Members_(D0550964).d
ocx) onto your company letterhead, amend the letter as you wish, sign it,
and send it electronically to CMS at
http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=S-2014-0070-0001. (Click the
blue “Comment Now!” button in the upper-right corner to upload your letter.)
It is important that the O&P profession send as many comments as possible.
