Refused Items

Hello List,

I think I’m going to have an ulcer in 2014 with all these changes, we should all buy stock in OTS heartburn meds I think those sales are going to sky rocket (my attempt at humor but probably more like fact)

We have run into issues as of late where patients are not returning to be fit with their device. This is presenting a problem, as we all know, custom devices cannot be used on anyone else and there are costs to return prefabricated items.

How are you handling this? Also, moving forward into 2014 have you adopted any new policies to adapt to the insurance changes that are ongoing. I have a great concern that with the cost of some of the insurance plans, people have gone with the bronze plan and have a $6300 deductible and as providers we are not going to get paid because of that enormous out of pocket expense.

I’m thinking of instituting a policy where you come in, we evaluate your needs, write up a treatment plan and then while waiting on benefit verifications, etc… we have them come back another time for the casting of the custom device to give us time to deal with the high volume of calls and long wait times with insurance companies.

Last question: Is it legal to have a patient sign something saying they agree to the fabrication of their device so that we have something to fall back on with them when they do not show up for said device?

Thank you in advance! Happy Holidays to all.
