LCDs/ L-codes/ ICD-9s RESPONSES

Randy McFarland

ORIGINAL POST

Is anyone aware if there exists an online quick-reference spreadsheet that
cross-references the following three lists?

1. L-codes
2. LCDs (Local Coverage Determinations- with abbreviated
descriptions/requirements)
3. ICD-9 diagnosis codes

As you know, certain procedure codes have LCD requirements which also
include a list of diagnosis codes that must be associated with the patients’
orthotic or prosthetic prescription. If everything doesn’t match up,
Medicare has an excuse to deny our efforts for the patients. My billing
software system is capable of giving me an “alert” when I enter an L-code,
but it seems like I might be duplicating effort if all the research for each
procedure code has already been done. Has Medicare or anyone already
developed a quick-reference spreadsheet that would save me from searching
through all the LCD pages, requirements and ICD-9 codes for each procedure
code? I’ll post responses. Randy McFarland, CPO Sunny Hills Prosthetic

Hope this helps! www.DMEPCA.com

Ingenix optumcoding.com makes a cross coder. Comes in print and cd or
online. They use the lcd to cross the icd to l code.

I go from memory now. And read the lcd’s every week.
