Trivia The cost of doing business today

Tom Masters

After reading the article “North Carolina Gave Soldier a Leg to Stand On” in
the O & P Business News, March 2013, I couldn’t resist running the numbers.
An exoskeletal BK with external joints, thigh lacer and “SACH” foot cost
$52.46 ( in 1866). In today’s dollars, acording to Measuring Worth
(http://www.measuringworth.com/uscompare/relativevalue.php ), that leg
would/should cost ~$12,400.00(using production worker compensation).
Billing out with Area ‘D’ allowables for the same leg: U & C $4153.45
That’s 33.49% behind inflation.
Did someone say the government is woried about how much a prosthesis costs
them?
