Spinal Motion during Walking in Persons with Transfemoral Amputation
with and without Low Back Pain

Low back pain (LBP) is a prevalent condition among the general
population. Studies have reported that persons with transfemoral
amputation (TFA) are significantly more likely to suffer from LBP than
persons with transtibial amputation. The purpose of this study was to
investigate whether there are differences in spine kinematics during
walking in persons with unilateral TFA with and without LBP.
Dr. Stefania Fatone is a research associate professor in the Department
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University.
Fatone is a prosthetist/orthotist and conducts prosthetic and orthotic
research at the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center
(NUPOC).
Dr. Azucena Rodriguez is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of
Electrical Engineering at Northwestern University. Rodriguez works with
Dr. Fatone at the Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center
(NUPOC).
