Good Day All,
Met with a 52 y/o lady this morning who is undergoing a L-transfemoral amputation d/t diabetic wound & osteomyelitis of the ankle. Complication: Long standing Elephantiasis of the LEs; L much worse than R. Her knee is not infx’d, but the surgeon is going AK d/t the enormity of her calf (circumference: 32″) & the long term skin-structural anomalies.
She claims the lymphedema has never been an issue in the thighs & they appeared WNL for a 6′, 300 lb female. She is very motivated & has been ambulatory w/o assistive device until infx worsened. Just wondering if anyone has worked w/this condition post amputation? Liners? Suspension? Considerations outside the norm? Thanks for the input & have a great weekend.
