Skiing for an above knee patient

Chelsea Luttrall

I have a patient who is going to go skiing this month. She’s never been,
and I want to ensure that she has a great time and nothing holds her back
prosthetically-speaking. I’m not a skier, though, so I’m not good at
visualizing all that happens, and what we need to plan for.

What have you all found that works for knee disarticulation prosthetic
users? Have you ever had anyone go with one-ski? Do they need protection
over their residual limb if they do that? What about sit-skiing? And can
a knee disarticulation patient user wear his/her prosthesis with a 3R60
knee for standing on bilateral ski’s? I’m not sure what’s possible out
there.
