lifespan of structural components

Markus Saufferer

Hello List,
Anyone have experience dealing with the question of “what is the
expected lifespan of structural components”. If the manufacturer
warrants a part for 3 years, perhaps we don’t need to replace the part
on the 37th month. But what about 4,5,6 years of use. Do we wait until
the part breaks and then finally have justification for replacement? In
other words, is there a lifespan for which structural components are
designed and tested for, beyond which they should be replaced to ensure
the patient’s well-being and safety, even if the part still visibly
appears to be in sound condition?
Thanks,
Markus Saufferer, C.P.(c)
