Dear O&P practitioners:
Yesterday I was made aware of concerns regarding latex being used in
pediatric extra depth shoes.
Please know since the mid 1990’s NO latex products are used during
therapeutic footwear manufacturing. Therapeutic shoe factories test
their materials and deliver all LATEX FREE products.
Shoes purchased on the retail level however do NOT follow the same
testing criteria as therapeutic footwear manufacturers.
Rough denim materials once used for lining is also no longer being used
. Denim material is responsible for skin break down. Therapeutic shoe
factories no longer use rough denim as lining material.
I suspect the Mom who thought she smelled latex actually was overcome by
the strong glues used during production.
Please feel free to contact me with further questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Lori Watson
