Hip dislocation 14 year old female

Nicole Pepper

Hello to All!

I am currently treating a 14 year old right hip dislocation patient. She
was in a car accident at the age of 3 years old; she fractured her hip and
shattered her pelvis causing lifelong damage. She has a very unstable hip
presenting in a trendelenburg gait with at least 6 inches of head
displacement and shoulder displacement on the affected side. Her gluteus
medius is 0/5, flexion/extension of the hip is 3-/5, quads are 3/5, and her
hamstrings are 3-/5. Also she has a weak ankle on the right side and wears
a dorsi-assist AFO. Being at an impressionable age, she was very hesitant
to the thought of having to wear a plastic LSO with a thigh section and hip
joint. I was wondering if anyone who has encountered this situation had
positive outcomes and suggestions to possible bracing solutions?

Thanks!
