This is for colleagues in the San Antonio, Texas area. If any of you have a
recommendation for an M.D. who specializes in shoulder injuries, please send
them to me. Individual is 6′ 2″ tall, 240 pound, 48 year old male relative with
30+ years long history of right (dominant side) shoulder separations. He has
had some evaluations in the past, but did not want to deal with the surgery or
possible ROM limitations. He recently (Thanksgiving day) re-injured it lifting a
heavy, awkward item. He said he felt and heard something tear/rip at the
anterior aspect of the joint while lifting the object. Pain is acute at anterior
aspect of shoulder joint. He also experiences difficulty sleeping and pain when
at rest (sitting and reading the newspaper). From his description, I suspect
this pain is similar to the muscular and joint aching that someone with a
brachial plexus injury describes. He has full ROM, but GH flexion is painful,
resulting in significant decrease in lifting ability. Thanks in advance for your
recommendations.
