Responses: Inventory

Mark Graham

Thank for your responses. However, can anyone respond to other systems of
inventory control other than OPIE? Also, can anyone comment on implementing
and using bar code scanning?

Thank you,
Mark

Hello, I am working on improving the management of a moderately sized
inventory for an O&P practice. The practice incorporates four practitioners
and two technicians w/ 500 sq feet for inventory items. My questions are
these:

How do you control what comes in and out of inventory?
(rolling inventory, bar code scaning, etc)
For those that use bar code scanning, what size is your
inventory? Would you recommend it? What was your deciding
factors for implementing it?
What do you do with the excess/unused product?

I appreciate your input.

OPIE.
For unused product, donate before the end of your physical year if you don’t
plan on using it, or if the item takes more time to store and find than it
is worth.

Order OPIE and you won’t have this problem at all.

Hello Mark,
Not sure how familiar you are with OPIE patient management system. It has a
wonderful inventory component that is integrated into the purchasing and the
patient medical records. They are also introducing bar code scanning into
the program. You can set your limits and then the system will automatically
put a notification into the purchasing for you to order a replacement when
you go below a specific level. Everything is accessed on-line so you can
know what your inventory is from anywhere with internet access. This
definitely reduces shipping costs and makes your year-end inventory process
very simple. You also have a great record for insurance claims in case of
damage to your facility.
