I have a unilateral transfemoral patient with an interesting condition. Ten inch stump length, conical shape. He wears a 3mm locking gel liner employing a strap suspension. Flexible IC socket is comfortable. No measurable pistoning present. Activity level is K2 household and minimal community ambulator. The problem: his prosthetic one ply sock works its way up on his stump enlarging the distal hole as it does this feat. The sock ends up bunched up at the perineum leaving his gel liner clad stump sans sock. The distal hole in the sock is now huge of course. I have had patients complain of the socks falling down into the socket but this is a first proximal traveling sock for me. IF you have run across this in you practice please respond with the solution you cleverly devised to thwart the migratory sock.
