HAITI

Jeffrey McDonald CP

Hello List,

I have been in contact with a group of physicians planning a mission trip to Haiti for the purpose of providing prosthetics for a group of twenty five BK amputees.

The plan has been to take the casts in Haiti, return to the US to fabricate (per the ICRC standards and materials list), and then back to Haiti for fitting and adjustments.

However with all I’ve been reading regarding the effort to establish a fully functioning P&O lab there, I’m having second thoughts about this mission.

Can someone give me a realistic time line for established services in Haiti? Who will be in charge of securing practitioners for volunteering? Is there anyone stateside who can train us on the ICRC method for fabrication?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff McDonaldCP
