Randy McFarland

ORIGINAL POST
I need to procure a lumbar spinal flexion orthosis for a 50 inch hip
circumference. Prefab XLarge only goes to 44″.Any suggestions on a
source? Also, what’s the proper L code? Thanks to those who respond.

You’re going to have to sew some things together to make it work and
just use the same L-code. These are the things that we must to make us
different that fitters!

The best code I can come up with is L0636. This should meet the
criteria for a custom LSO lumbar flexion orthosis with lateral
articulating design. Currently it is still covered by Medicare in DMERC
A.

There is a brace, the OrthoLux Lite, which uses elastic “strapping” and
because of that allows for flexion but has a rigid back plate, which
stops extension, but it is really quite different in structure from the
Williams flexion brace of the 1960s. Becker still makes custom braces of
the “conventional” chairback, Knight Taylor, and Williams types, and
your patient is certainly a custom size! You might try them. Their price
is high, but they do nice work.

The William’s Orthosis (model number LS120) is currently in the
process of being discontinued at Trulife. In addition, we do not carry a
larger size than what is listed in the catalog (XL).
The suggested replacement for the William’s Orthosis at Trulife is the
Standard Soft Rigid LSO, also referred to as a SRO.

Becker Orthopedic still makes them custom.
