HCPCS Code

Cobb, James P.

I would like to get some opinions on when you feel it is correct to use
L-2275.

The actual definition is as follows.

“Addition to lower extremity, varus/valgus correction, plastic
modification, padded/lined”

I have polled my coworkers, and also a lot of my O&P friends. All of
which has been to the coding seminar.

It’s amazing all the different answers and reasons they used to support
their use.

I tried to search the internet. I found the same descriptor and
verbiage hundreds of time.

I found many articles stating that the Arizona brace can no longer use
the code.

I even stumbled across some court cases for the improper use of the
code. I found the information inside the

transcripts disappointing. In the transcripts it never said why the code
was used wrong and what the proper use was.

So, I have decided to poll the biggest congregation of O&P
professionals. I hope to find the exact legal reasoning behind the
creation of the code.

The actual descriptor can be misleading, and defended many ways. This I
found out with my friends and coworkers!

I am not trying to start a debate, just looking for a definitive answer.

I will post replies.

Thank you
