This is to update you that all is well with the name change. I was concerned with regard to the laws as written requiring certification by a specific wording. I received a great explanatory email from Greg Safko, who is the president of BOC. The corporation did not legally change the name, as thus, the wording of the existing laws does not need to be changed and all is well. The name change was for the common name, and thus printed on the certificates.
In light of the info I have, and seeing the progress of the field going toward higher educational and quality standards, I can see the name change as being a step in the same direction for the BOC. The new BOC certificates also include more of a description of the desire to maintain the persuit of the mission of BOC and thus improve and continue to grow in the level of education, competence, and professionalism, so that the practitioner being certified tomorrow will be held to a higher standard than today’s.
This growth is also seen with the ABC as there are now master degrees for O&P. While have two accrediting bodies and many associated organizations, it is nice to see that all seem to be going in the same direction to improve education, quality, professionalism, and an ever increasing base level of competence to become certified.
It is this aspect that will allow the field to progress in this competitive time, and also keep up with the many technological improvements that are on the horizon.
My sincerest apologies if I caused others concerns, and hopefully this helps and clarifies all.
