Responses to posted question

Gary Yackley

This communication is a follow up to enlighten all to the responses that
I received from my question about a release agent for pouring fiberglass
TLSO casts with urethane foam. The overwhelming answer was Crisco or
good ol’ lard spread liberally inside the cast with a gloved hand.
Vaseline and a cooking oil corn starch mixture came in second. Third was
plastic; either trash bags inside the casts or “plastic wrap wrapped
around the patient”. Orthocoat, Johnson’s Wax, talc powder were also
mentioned. The winners will receive a free catered lunch and beverages
in their ice shanty on Thompson Lake, Maine.
Thanks to all that responded and I hope that I can give you a leg up
sometime (prosthetic joke).
