O P De-Capitation

Joyce Perrone

I’m AMAZED that ANY insurance carrier is still talking about this! It’s
really an archaic way of doing business in healthcare unless you are a
primary care. No Specialist would touch it. We talked about it around 7
or 8 years ago. Work the numbers and it’s just not feasible and the
management of it is a bear. Unless the health plan has at least 350,000
enrollees, they are really whistling in the dark. By the time you work
your carve-outs, what’s left is not worth the rate. Just say NO.

Subject: capitation in O&P

Anyone here have any capitation contracts for O&P?

I am looking for more information on the subject. It sounds risky if you
= don’t know exactly what the numbers will be. How do you figure out the
= rates?

Any good or bad experiences?

Thanks in advance,

Matt Bailey, CPO/LPO
