Hello colleagues,
I was recently referred a patient/client who has a slightly swollen ankle…
the patient had been in a MVA some time ago and the leg is full of grafted
skin and irregularly shaped remaining musculature. The ankle area is
basically untouched but the patient is very concerned that it is slightly
bigger in circumference than her contralateral unaffected leg.
she has tried to wear compression stockings on the leg in an attempt to
reduce the circumference of the ankle, to no avail. The stockings are
30-40mmHg.
My question is, are there stockings available with higher compression? I
know this is purely for cosmetic reasons… I have a feeling that there will
be no real solution to this problem and that the patient is unable to
comprehend that some aspects of her life have changed since the accident.
The patient is a Manhattanite that apparently travels in circles where she
will be closely scrutinized, or at least she thinks she will be closely
scrutinized.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
