Good Morning and it appears to be a good morning for the =
Orthotic/Prosthetic
proponents that took part in the NegReg conferences. If I am reading
correctly, Medicare has decreed that only those suppliers that specified
specialty codes 51, 52, 53, 55, 56 and 57 will be able to receive =
payment
after, July 5, 2005, for prosthetics and custom-fabricated orthotics. =
The
notice I have read states that specialty codes 51=3D Medical Supply =
Company
with Certified Orthotist, 52 =3DMSC with Certified Prosthetist, 53=3DMSC =
with
Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist, 55=3DCertified Orthotist, =
56=3DCertified
Prosthetist and 57=3DCertified Orthotist and Prosthetist. Congrats to =
all who
assisted in this decision.

There are still some questions, in my mind, as to the definitions of
“Certified” and if state licensure has any status. Also, how will this =
be
verified? =20

I think this is long overdue and a good step to start the separation O =
and P
from DME. Again, a THANK YOU to all who assisted in this decision.
