Here is a job offer for an Orthotist (or orthotic fitter) who can do acute fracture casting or an Orthopedic Technologist who can apply braces. This is where the industry is going as far as employment opportunities within the 10,000 orthopedic practices and 800 hospitals that maintain orthopedic departments.
Be in front of the curve. If you’re an Orthotic Fitter learn fracture casting. If you’re an Orthopedic Technologist, sharpen your bracing skills.
Employers want dual trained employees. In Florida (and many other
states) , you can even add x-ray technology to your resume by passing the state exam without going one day to school. Twenty-eight states allow less than the full 2 yr RT training or no licensing at all to take xrays.
Combine this with knowledge of casting and bracing and you are the second most important person in the practice.
Imagine….a fracture patient comes visits the orthopedic office. You take the xray, you put on the cast, you take off the cast, apply the brace.
