kyphosis responses

nathan keepers

Here are the responses to my inquiry of the ideal orthosis for little
elderly kyphotic ladies with multiple compression fractures:

for the little old kyphotic lady,
a product that we have used quite successful is the
Spino medi TLSO from Medipro.
it is a dorsal rigid upright with axilla straps to
provide the extension forces.

I have been doing this many years 20 and let me know if you find out.

Check out the Boston Soft Body Jacket. We have used several quite
successfully in the scenario you describe.

Try suspending some weights on the back of an acromio-clavicular splint.
Works great and the elderly patients get a great aerobic workout. Hope this
helps.

Nathan, you might try the ‘Mother’s Hug” TLSO from Danforth(now Otto Bock).
Give them a call to discuss the “particulars”.

We (StatFab) make the ACE Brace; it’s like the CASH brace, but with features
that solve some of the “comfort” issues. You’ll get much better compliance
with the ACE Brace than with the CASH brace. Our President is the inventor
of the CASH brace, and the ACE Brace is his more recent version with a
patented pectoral design.

Nathan,
Two things I’ve done is to use a Camp PTS. The one with the circumferential
strap works better.
Or sew velcro into the back of an LSO corset and place LOC thoracic pads on
each side. They act as Kyphus pads. (They are not in an optimal position,
but seem to work well enough to make the patient more comfortable and in an
orthosis that they can manage.)
