I sent my letter of resignation to ABC yesterday. As a practicing
Prosthetist/Orthotist who has fulfilled the ABC requirements to call myself a CPO, and
from someone who enjoyed the prestige that went along with my commitment to
fulfill these requirements, I HAVE BEEN ALIENATED BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS
PROFESSION.
This move creates confusion in the marketplace and has negated any prestige
that was once associated with the title CPO.
My future single credential will be LPO. I will no longer support ABC, as it
does not support what it claims to be in support of; ME, and the standards of
practice which I represent in my local market.
I will educate my local market, of the true value which the new “CPO” title
deserves. That value is Nada, Zilch, Zero…. get the picture?? which is
exactly how much I will be paying each year in dues to keep both my personal ABC
certification and my facility certification.
Good luck with your new ABC venture, I won’t be part of it. I’m sure the new
blood will certainly replace us old betrayed dogs. You can bet the farm on
it… Oh, that’s right, I guess you already did that!
