OPAF offers the following announcement from the the National Institutes
of Health (NIH) as a public service, as part of its official
representation of O&P in community and philanthropic circles

NIH ROADMAP FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH
A Briefing by the NIH Director and Senior Staff
February 27, 2004

In September of 2003, National Institutes of Health Director Elias A.
Zerhouni, M.D., launched a series of far-reaching initiatives known
collectively as the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research. The NIH Roadmap
initiatives are designed to speed the movement of research discoveries
from the bench into practice for the benefit of the public.

JOIN US live or via webcast for a briefing on the implementation and
future directions of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research. NIH Director
Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., and other key NIH leaders will provide specific
updates on requests for applications and other initiatives currently in
circulation, describe future opportunities and answer questions about
the NIH Roadmap’s three themes: New Pathways to Discovery, Research
Teams of the Future, and Re-engineering the Clinical Research
Enterprise.

Representatives from academic health centers, professional
organizations, and health advocacy groups are particularly encouraged to
attend.

Webcast viewers are invited to submit questions in advance to
[email protected] by February 24. The speakers will attempt to address
as many questions as possible during their presentations.

presentations, and a synopsis will be available on the NIH Roadmap Web
site following the briefing.
