*Lawmakers Work to Ease Medicare Red Tape

A bipartisan group of House lawmakers has reintroduced legislation
intended to ease Medicare’s regulatory burden on health care providers.
The Medicare Regulatory and Contracting Reform Act of 2003 (H.R. 810)
aims to address some of the burdensome processes that force health care
providers to spend more time on paperwork than on patient care.

AOPA’s diligence on Capitol Hill helped ensure that the concerns of O&P
practitioners would be included in the provisions of the new Medicare
legislation. As this bill moves forward, AOPA will continue to represent
its members and work to reduce Medicare’s regulatory burden on
practitioners. AOPA anticipates that this legislation will be made part
of a Medicare package considered by the House this year.

For more information on the provisions of the bill, visit
http://www.aopanet.org/AIA.shtml.

*Help Advance O&P On Capitol Hill – Without Leaving Your Office

AOPA has a resource kit to help you arrange and conduct a facility tour
for your members of Congress. This kit will help you improve your
lawmakers’ knowledge of O&P. You can advance O&P legislative issues by
showing members of Congress the custom nature of O&P services and
illustrating how dramatically O&P services improve the lives of
patients.

AOPA’s Congressional Facility Tour Resource Kit will walk you through
each step of your facility tour, including how to request a visit from
lawmakers, how to prepare for the tour and what issues may be important
to discuss with your senator or representative. Receive your free copy
of this helpful tool by visiting www.aopanet.org.

*Confused By Medicare Billing?

Is the office staff at your facility frustrated with the complexities of
Medicare billing? If so, AOPA can help! Plan to attend our newest
seminar, O&P Billing Basics: A Medicare Primer.

The first seminar will be held at the end of May and will include a
one-day class and a Medicare manual specific to O&P services. The
seminar will cover the pros and cons of Medicare participation and teach
attendees how to complete the claim form, interpret a remittance notice,
appeal claims, bill patients, use modifiers, work with the staff of
insurance companies and understand Medicare regulations and policies
that affect O&P.

Whether you are new to O&P Medicare billing or just want a refresher
course, watch AOPA In Advance for more information on this upcoming
session.
