Incorrect !!!!! FLA O&P Board Assesment

Paul Prusakowski

For any concerned individuals, this information is not correct. I just got off the phone with a Florida O&P Board member and one of the directors of the Florida Department of Health and Quality Assurance to find out the facts. There is not going to be a fee that high for those practicing in Florida. This message posted by Mr. Barocas is being presented out of context and is not correct. If anyone is interested in finding out the facts, please call the Florida Board of Orthotists & Prosthetists at (850) 245-4444 ext. 3620.

Before publishing information that should be verified before posting, please do everyone a favor and verify the information so that you do not mislead people and create unnecessary stress in other people’s lives. Many of us may recall the story about the boy who cried wolf… one too many times. If he was on a listerver he would have been filtered by a moderator, and probably not lost all of his sheep.

Thank you. Happy Holidays.

>It looks like the special $ assessment for all those licensed under the
>Florida O&P statutes is all but a done deal. This, one time, $1305.00
>assessment will be charged to all licensee’s. That means the lowly fitter
>assistant will pay the same as the exalted prosthetist. So much for
>fairness in taxation. (call it what you want, but it’s still a tax.)

>In the published minutes from the last Fla O&P Board meeting it states “Mr.

>$1305.00. That would mean the fitter assistant license is more expensive
>than a PT, RN, LPN, RT(60 bucks), DDS, ATC, ATTY, school teacher or just

>Gee…$2300.00 in fees for a $10-12/hour job for your 1st two years. If
>this gets any worse, FA’s and OF’s will get wise about not being represented
>on the board and just work for pharmacists and not bother with the license
>at all. They can just set up a little brace shop within the pharmacy.
>Isn’t that the way this all started about a 100 years ago?
