Re: Comp bidding Monopoly

Anthony T. Barr

Mr.Howell here is another conspiracy theory for you.

What national chain of O&P facilities would have advantage over independents in the bidding scenario of winning lucrative Medicare/Medicaid O&P provider contracts particularly when educational qualifications of the providers are not a factor in the equation?

Which facilities are most likely to be able to receive deep discounts in their cost of goods and pass that on in a competitive bid contract ? Those with the buying power of 600 plus offices or those with a single or a handful of O&P facilities ?

What trade organization are providers most likely to belong to regardless of their qualification credentials? Probably the same trade association as an you do asssuming you are a independent, but do you think a 600 store member base pays the same for the products that you do from the members of that trade association? Now dont forget to include stock and bill incentives in this theory!

Would Wal-Mart have a better chance of winning bids of national (Medicare) and state (Medicaid) competitive bid contracts for providing plastic trash cans liners than one local store down the street? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Now lets include the strategy of silencing consumers (patients receiving those services) so not to rock the boat with arguments for high qualification nonesense and the fact that the same trade organization was delegated the authority of providing legislative negotiations and recommending qualification standards by the professional association.. You’re screwed! Get lawyer or sell them your facility and buy their stock!

Yet another,
Squeaky Wheel
