More responses-Grinding carbon fiber

Randall McFarland, CPO

Another response to my post about how to grind/sand on carbon graphite:

I didn’t reply earlier because I thought yuo would be inundated with either the method I use which works for me or with some more useful idea.
I use my trautman for this task using the regular arbor or one of the older arbors witha slightly worn or rounded small end. I use either 1,2, 3 or even 4 sanding cones on the end of the arbor to get the desired effect. The more cones you use the more dispersed the sanding area will be. I use differnt grits for different speeds of grinding. Starting with coarse then medium then fine or worn medium grit cone. The blue, green or red tycro cones work well too. The woolfelt cones or the Carolina brace red cones don’t work terribly well and definitely don’t last long considering their cost.
I use many of my used cones for inside socket grinding just before I dispose of them. I hope this helps. Erik Rasmussen CPO
