This intensive full-day course will include clinical history and gait assessment of 4-6 live patients with footdrop, including comparison of their gait (1) w/o orthotic intervention, (2) w/orthotic intervention w/o customization, and (3) w/orthotic intervention w/customization. Considerable gains have been made in recent years in studies of muscles and proprioception and the impact of their activity on the entire biomechanical chain. A working knowledge of this biomechanical pathway in gait may offer the orthotist new tools to move orthotic intervention beyond stabilization to increased mobility with gait enhancement. The course will include exploration of AFO customization techniques to address such issues as the supinated or pronated foot, proximal control in both the frontal and sagittal planes, flexion or extension control of the knee, and potential proprioception enhancement. Interactive: Participants will be invited to present their own case studies for audience input. March 19, 2002 – Four Points Sheraton, Kissimmee, FL – Very reasonable room rates.
