Re: flex foot

Registered Technician in Prosthetics and Orthotics

Hey Mandy
Welcome to the field.
As far as the problems I’ve faced with flex feet, you nailed it, squeaks and holes in the footshell. I’ve tried pulling a kevlar sock (stockinette with a sewn toe) over the foot than putting it back in the footshell and that has helped with the majority of squeaks. Sometime the foot (if split toe) rubs on itself where it is split. In this case FF has come up with a small rubber insert that is shaped like an I ( more like a sideways H) that seems to have solved that problem. Finally the hole in the footshell….. let me know if you figure out a permanent way to solve this. It is basically up to the manufacturer to embed the kevlar in the right spot. Aside from that you really can do very little other than replace the footshell. If the patient’s gait or lifestyle causes more direct force to be put on a specific area of the footshell you are going to have problems. Good luck and always have fun… if you can’t you need to find a different field.
