I am an INDEPENDENT O & P provider. I am indipendant out of choice not need.
When I chose to be independent, I accepted both the risk and reward for
owning my own practice. I work in a competitive environment in many ways:
Costs – employees, materials, components, overhead, capitol equipment,
sales/marketing, and soooooo many others
Revenues – increased demographic needs/decreased reimbursements rates
Profit – ???
Bottom line is that we work in a free market environment, Just as our big
brother Hanger does. I have efficiency advantages, that Hanger does not have,
simply by being a small business. Hanger has efficiencies that I don’t enjoy
(vertical integration) simply by being a big player.
Reading the posts on this list that are bashing Hanger for running their
business as efficiently as they can, is pathetic. If an independent can’t
compete with Hanger in service or price, he has no business being in
business, and,over time, the free market WILL work him out of the equation.
