supplies to unqualified providers based on huge volume and whom are
bidding for medicare contracts (ex:DME suppliers) or large franchise
chain based .Those providers are able to win Medicare O&P contracts
based on lower costs of materials. Profit margins are smaller as well as
cost of goods. Seems there is unfair advantage to bid process without
regard to qualifications of providers.
All providers should be on a equal playing field with professional
standards before they are qualified to bid on 70-80% of the total O&P
industry income source, Medicare. ABC,BOC ,licensed some criteria.
Hanger and McDonalds have the right to franchise the marketplace but
McDonalds must comply to FDA restrictions to protect consumers.Who
regulates oversees O&P providers as health care profession when they are
serving up halos,spina bifida
and scoliosis treatment orthosis or artificial limbs? In most states its
the Dept of Agriculture.
The federal govt has no agency to protect the consumer from improper O&P
treatment.Low bidder wins!
